Sleep Patterns Influenced by Genes

sleep, health, genesScientists say that they have found more evidence that the habit of waking up and sleeping late, it can be caused by individual genes.

Researchers say these findings have helped to understand better how the human body works, and its influence in sleep disturbance.

As they say, to bed early, wake up too early. However, researchers in the world of sleep problems, it rose could be called as a disease, as symptoms of people who have trouble sleeping at night.

The human body works with 24-hour cycle. This natural mechanism is known as the circadian rhythm, which determines how long we sleep and when.

The researchers, including neurologist Dr. Louis Ptacek of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, found a fault in a gene known as Per2 circadian rhythms that govern it.

In the journal Nature, Dr. Ptacek and colleagues at the Howard Hughes Institute, University California in San Francisco reported the discovery of another gene mutation in another gene, known as the CK1 delta.

"If you imagine it like the rotation of toothed wheels within hours, if the movement is too fast there may be a problem in one wheel or in the Per2 gene, mutations may also occur in a different wheel, in this case, CK1 Delta," explained Dr. Ptacek who discovered the existence of a defective gene in a family of people who wake up in the morning.

When the gene is inserted into the body of rats, the animals showed similar behavior. When the injections of the same gene in the fruit fly, that disrupt their circadian rhythm.

Dr. Ptacek said that using the same gene to study the behavior of different species may be encourage discovery of molecular mechanisms involved in sleep disorders. He estimates that three out of 10 people has some form of sleep disturbance. Research on genes that regulate the body clock can lead to the discovery of drugs to sleep disturbance in those people.

"As we age, we all have a tendency to sleep early and wake up early. In some cases, it is a problem for seniors who woke up when cold, the weather was dark and lonely. So the discovery that we call normal with increasing age is another example where the drug, which helps us adjust our body clocks will probably improve the quality of people's lives better, "she added Ptacek.

The researchers said the six family members who studied it for waking up early is also suffering from asthma, depression and headaches. Scientists believe there may be a link between these diseases with sleep disturbance.

Tom reflexology Feroah of the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee have been researching the rats that were almost identical to each other and conclude a variety of different genes cause different sleep patterns.

Professor Feroah say no wonder that people who suffer from sleep disorder suffer from various diseases. He said that regulate circadian rhythm clocks small circuits contained in each cell, which ultimately regulate the immune system, temperature regulation, hormone and brain functions of the brain.

"There is a combination of all bodily functions, which we tried to sleep out of habit, because it used to the TV or because there are lights that our lives seemed to disrupt the entire body functions. It makes us feel more stressed and unable also to release stress, and not sleep well, did not recover to normal when sick and have a tendency to suffer from the disease" explained Feroah.

People whose sleep is not good and could not sleep soundly, suffer more heart disease, high blood pressure and stroke, which caused disruption on the immune system,

The researchers hope to find more sleep genes. Laboratory studies so far show little change in the CK1 gene Delta calming activities that seem to disturb the sleep of protein. This is probably good news for people who can not get a good nights sleep.
