Once again, a study shows that smoking is not only harmful to oneself but also for the environment around them. The report from Dr. Paolo Vineis as quoted by The British Medical Journal states children have the highest risk of smoking parents.
Impact of smoker to non-smokers (passive smoking) has long been known. But the dangers of parental smoking on children's health is only now emerging. From research conducted by Dr. Paolo Vineis in European countries found that children experienced the highest impact.
It is about three times the lung cancer and respiratory problems associated with smokers other than parents. Dr. Paolo mentioned research results are very different this time to research the impact of smoking on human health.
Dr. Paolo Vineis is a professor from Imperial College London (United Kingdom). For nearly seven years, Dr. Paolo doing research on 123 000 people from 10 European countries that are known to be passive smokers. Within that, 97 people later known lung cancer, 20 affected with respiratory problems and 14 died.
The risk of children affected by lung cancer has increased up to 3.6 times that of smokers because the parents of these children have become a passive smoker. Overall, the study also showed the risk of contracting diseases associated with lung will reach 30% of children are passive smokers.
That number will be higher than the risk of smokers who have retired from smoking. In the U.S. in 1900 until 2700 suspected cases of death in newborn babies is mentioned because they are passive smokers. No wonder Dr. Paolo also suggested that a number of countries began to introduce laws to protect these passive smokers.
Smoking at home is not prohibited but Dr. Paolo suggested parents should not smoke at home while their children are nearby. Dr. Norman Edelman advise others that if smoking should be advised not to smoke all subjects covered.
