Maintained Animals Prevent Obesity

Health - One of the advantages of having dogs as pets is because they are known as loyal to his master. However, recent research reveals, a dog at home can reduce the risk of obesity in children.

According to Christopher Owen, epidemiologist at the University of St. George's, playing in the park with a dog can increase children's activity levels. Based on a study of 78 children in major cities in the UK, children who keep dogs are more active than those who do not.

Researchers found that children in families that have more dogs to take part in physical activity. However, the researchers are not sure whether the family who are more active tend to have a dog or the family dog sedentary individuals become more active.

"This is like answering a question which is first, the chicken or the egg. And require long-term studies to answer that," said Owen.

Active play
The purpose of this study is to measure the level of activity, such as the number of steps walked and time spent in the daytime, and physical activity are strong. This study used a sample of more than 2,000 children aged 9 to 10 years.

As a result, researchers have found ample evidence that every weekend the family that owns the dog has a level of physical activity is higher. This means that children ask their parents when a walk with a dog or play with the dog at home, rather than playing on the computer or watching television.

"This activity increase is a significant difference in children's health long term because it reduces the risk of obesity or diabetes. And provide benefits in their health," said Owen.
